How The University of Manchester Uses Matterport To Virtually Induct Students

The University of Manchester’s Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama was struggling with students leaving rehearsal spaces untidy and not always reporting issues correctly, creating extra work for staff and risking damage to valuable instruments. To improve student induction and set clearer expectations, the university turned to Matterport digital twins and its Pro3 camera to build an immersive virtual model of the centre.

Matterport helped The University of Manchester create a virtual induction module with embedded information and quizzes that students must complete before accessing rehearsal rooms. The result was stronger student preparation and better care of the spaces: the digital twin was visited 329 times by 183 students, and 143 students completed the quiz, while staff reported cleaner rooms, fewer email queries, and a more efficient onboarding process.
