Burns & McDonnell needed to keep a critical microgrid project for Liberty Utilities on track at a remote California site during COVID-19 lockdowns, when bidders couldn’t easily visit in person. Without a clear way to show the location, the project risked slipping by a year because of winter weather and construction timing. Burns & McDonnell used Matterport Capture App and a Leica BLK360 to create a detailed 3D virtual tour of the site.

Matterport enabled Burns & McDonnell to host a virtual site visit, annotate key details, and share the scan with bidders and stakeholders for design, coordination, and approvals. The result was faster buy-in, improved project design, and consistent engagement from bidders over several weeks. Most importantly, Matterport helped Burns & McDonnell avoid a year-long delay and saved a full year of time on the project.
