Samsung UK Develops 4G Wireless Systems with Simulink

Samsung’s Advanced Technology Group at the Samsung Electronics Research Institute in London needed to accelerate development of next‑generation 4G physical‑layer algorithms and collaborate with EU consortium partners under tight deadlines. To standardize baseband algorithm development, improve reuse, and support detailed analysis and simulation, they adopted MathWorks tools, principally Simulink along with MATLAB, Communications Toolbox, and DSP System Toolbox.

MathWorks helped Samsung migrate algorithms to Simulink and provided consulting to shorten ramp‑up, integrate C/C++ contributions, and build a shared software library for wireless research. The MathWorks solution delivered measurable impact: the team produced a first complete transmission‑chain simulation within one week and full multi‑carrier chains (including MC‑CDMA and COFDM) within three weeks, consistently met aggressive milestones ahead of schedule, and established a collaborative development platform that improved reuse and cross‑site integration.
