Woolworths Opts for Bandwidth Friendly Solution

Woolworths, the largest retailer in Australia and New Zealand, faced a significant challenge deploying a video surveillance system across its vast network of 3,500 stores, many of which had limited bandwidth of just 64 kb/s. The retailer needed a solution that could operate effectively in this constrained environment without disrupting vital back-office data. After a public tender and rigorous evaluation process, Woolworths selected a solution from March Networks.

March Networks implemented its 4000 C Series hybrid recorders, which utilized advanced MPEG-4 compression and Adaptive Compression Technology to efficiently manage video over low-bandwidth links. The solution proved to be highly reliable, with only one or two failures out of approximately 2,500 deployed recorders. This allowed Woolworths to effectively investigate incidents, validate transactions, and share evidence, improving loss prevention and safety outcomes across the business while operating within their technical constraints.
