Kansas City Power & Light Opts for Intelligent, Integrated Video Surveillance Solution

Kansas City Power & Light (KCP&L) needed a reliable and intelligent video surveillance solution to provide centralized security oversight for its vast network of power plants, substations, and offices spread across 18,000 square miles. The challenge was to manage over 1,700 cameras and integrate with access control and alarm systems, all while operating efficiently over bandwidth-limited networks. They turned to vendor March Networks to meet these needs.

March Networks implemented its 8000 Series Hybrid NVRs and enterprise management software, which provided centralized oversight, robust health monitoring, and support for both analog and IP cameras. The solution allowed security personnel to effectively respond to approximately 56,000 monthly alarms and proactively address issues like copper theft, leading to successful apprehensions and prosecutions. The highly reliable system provided measurable results, including exceeding equipment life expectancy and ensuring compliance with federal energy regulations, making KCP&L a very satisfied March Networks customer.
