A Maintel Case Study

Planning and implementing a communications strategy to drive innovation

University College London Hospitals (UCLH) needed to modernize an ageing, disparate communications estate supporting 6,000 staff in a high-pressure healthcare environment. The trust wanted to consolidate voice and device communications, reduce spiralling costs, and prepare for a new hospital with infrastructure that could support both clinical communications and patient entertainment services. Maintel was brought in to help plan and implement the communications strategy.

Maintel audited the existing telephony estate, identified cost savings, and delivered a fully managed communications service covering fixed-line telephony, pagers, bleepers and BlackBerry devices, supported by on-site engineers and a 24/7 helpdesk. The result was a simplified, centralized communications system with reduced telecoms spend, fewer management complexities, and a platform for innovation such as bedside IP telephony and video-on-demand with controllable patient charges.
