A Mailchimp Case Study
Laura Olin, a writer and digital strategist, wanted to create a newsletter that would do something new with email and let her experiment beyond the goals of political campaign messaging. Using Mailchimp’s TinyLetter product, she launched “Everything Changes” with a changing theme each week, aiming to build an audience for her creative work without knowing whether it would resonate beyond friends and a small initial readership.
Mailchimp helped by hosting the newsletter for her Awl-backed issues and giving her room to keep creative control while also offering tools like segmentation and personalization. The newsletter grew far beyond her expectations, reaching 13 times the number of inboxes she had originally anticipated, attracting a literary agent, and leading to a book project based on the newsletter’s content.
