Carnegie Mellon University Instructors Use MadCap Flare to Teach Software Documentation Best Practices

Carnegie Mellon University used MadCap Software’s MadCap Flare in its Software Documentation class to give students hands-on experience with modern documentation practices. The instructors wanted students to learn topic-based authoring, single-source publishing, DITA content publishing, and XML-based content support, rather than relying on labor-intensive HTML mockups.

With MadCap Flare, students at all skill levels were able to build online Help projects, including reusable task-oriented topics and searchable documentation. Carnegie Mellon University said Flare’s indexing and glossary features made online Help navigation easier, and the software helped students understand topic-based authoring while gaining real-world experience.
