Blue Coat Systems, a web security provider based in Mountain View, CA, needed a better way to create and deliver documentation as its product line grew. Its existing process produced lengthy PDF and web guides that were difficult for customers to navigate, and the company wanted content that worked across desktops, notebooks, mobile phones, and tablets. Blue Coat turned to MadCap Software and MadCap Flare for single-source, multichannel publishing.

With MadCap Flare, Blue Coat created topic-based PDF and responsive HTML5 web guides, reused content across outputs, and customized documentation for OEM versions with variables, skins, and CSS. MadCap Flare also supported an award-winning deployment mode wizard built without software programming, using snippets, top navigation, and drop-down text. Blue Coat reported that OEM versions could be generated in under 30 minutes, while the new web guides provided a more intuitive experience with responsive design, search, videos, and links to PDFs.
