HEB Construction is a tier-one New Zealand civil contractor with a 1,200-strong, predominantly field-based workforce building roads, bridges, ports and buildings. The business generated large, dispersed documentation sets across laptops, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams, Outlook and Box, creating version-control issues, time-consuming manual collation (projects could take months to assemble), and daily travel for engineers to pick up and lodge paperwork — often in wet or muddy conditions.

Working with partner Manux, HEB implemented M-Files to digitize project quality packs, centralize all documents and photos (with EXIF location data), automate workflows and integrate with Power BI. The change delivered a single source of truth, better compliance and audit trails, eliminated 2–3 hours of travel per day saving about $80,000 in the proof of concept, cut months of admin work, and gave staff real-time insights and more time for higher-value work.
