A Luma Health Case Study
University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), the state’s only academic medical center and Level I trauma center, faced long wait times and a scheduling backlog—particularly in endocrinology—even though provider capacity was not the root cause. To create 24/7 patient access and reduce manual scheduling bottlenecks, UAMS partnered with Luma Health to deploy Luma scheduling and patient self-scheduling/rescheduling workflows.
Luma Health implemented SMS-based self-scheduling and automated rescheduling integrated with UAMS’ Epic EHR, giving patients control and reducing inbound calls and manual outreach. The deployment enabled systemwide, equitable access and drove measurable results: $138M in appointment revenue captured within one year, 74% of endocrinology patients used the automated rescheduling workflow instead of canceling, and $38,000 in appointments were rescheduled via SMS to avoid lost revenue.
