Achieved a 94% Success Rate in Reaching Patients After Automating Text-first Mass Communication During the COVID-19

Cook County Health, the largest safety-net system in Illinois, faced an urgent communications gap at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and needed a fast way to inform patients about clinic/hospital closures, transitions to telehealth, and safety guidance. To address this, Cook County Health implemented Luma Health’s Broadcast text-first mass-messaging tool to automate large-scale outreach.

Using Luma Health, CCH was able to message up to 10,000 patients at once, run staff symptom surveys and coordinate drive-through testing, and maintain care continuity while keeping patients and staff safer. The effort produced measurable results: a 94% success rate reaching patients via SMS and a 79% appointment confirmation rate.
