A Lionbridge Case Study
Lionbridge (customer) faced the challenge of optimizing existing German-language blog content for SEO: translations were time-consuming, costly, and often literal rather than regionally nuanced. As vendor, Lionbridge ran an internal experiment using generative AI tools — Amazon Bedrock, ChatGPT (Lionbridge Azure instance, ChatGPT‑4), Google Bard, and Meta’s Llama — to test prompt engineering, multilingual workflows, and localized content optimization.
Lionbridge implemented a three‑phase research, creation and analysis process with German-localized prompts, 10 German-speaking reviewers and human-in-the-loop validation, and found that AI can effectively update non‑English content when guided. Measurable outcomes included an average quality score of 86% for German content optimized with English prompts (ChatGPT with English prompts scored ~86.9 in Phase 2), Bard excelled at keyword research, Meta’s Llama was removed for non‑English tasks, and overall output quality improved over the course of the experiment.
