How Volvo Cars worked with Lionbridge and Avanade to create a more cohesive online presence across markets

Volvo Cars wanted to shift from in-person interactions to 100% digital online sales by 2030 and needed a more cohesive website experience across its many markets. The company had around 100 websites in 45 languages and 200 million annual visitors, but its previous setup left each market with its own translations, sales strategies, and website structure.

Working with Lionbridge and Avanade, Volvo Cars centralized translation responsibility and used a Translation Management System, a Sitecore connector, and existing Translation Memories to streamline the process. Lionbridge now completes translations for all languages for Volvo Cars, and the new approach reduced the time spent managing translation tasks by around 1,000 hours. The website now delivers a more uniform experience across markets, supports simultaneous campaigns and product launches, and gives Volvo Cars a single brand voice online.
