A Lionbridge Case Study

Preview of the Major International Legal Giant Case Study

How Lionbridge provided a customer legal document translation to help them handle large volumes of documents for an antitrust matter

Major International Legal Giant, a U.S.-based law firm representing a Japanese company, needed to translate and format an enormous corpus of Japanese documents for a DOJ Second Request tied to a multi‑billion‑dollar acquisition. The firm required high accuracy, court‑acceptable translations, meticulous formatting to match original documents, and rapid turnaround to meet strict six‑month deadlines — challenges compounded by cost risk and the need to identify duplicates across hundreds of thousands of files. Lionbridge was engaged to provide managed language services including machine translation (MT), machine translation post‑editing (MTPE), and desktop publishing/formatting.

Lionbridge delivered an end‑to‑end managed MT solution with global follow‑the‑sun teams, coordinated trackers, and targeted post‑editing and formatting support. The vendor machine‑translated 6 billion words, translated and formatted over 600,000 documents (606,365 delivered), post‑edited 1.7 million words, and completed the project in six months with dedicated teams and QA. As a result, Lionbridge helped the customer meet all DOJ deadlines with no questions from the DOJ, preserved the firm’s regulatory reputation, and strengthened the ongoing client relationship.
