Serco’s Recruitment Team becomes a Global Centre of Excellence Thanks to LinkedIn

Serco, a global services company with about 120,000 employees running hundreds of public‑ and private‑sector contracts, needed to recruit widely for diverse roles—from procurement heads to jet pilots—often on short notice. Historically local HR relied on agencies for roughly 80–90% of hires, so Serco set out to define its employer brand, centralize recruitment and dramatically reduce agency spend.

By rolling out LinkedIn Recruiter licenses, job slots, talent‑mapping tools and targeted Company Page campaigns, Serco built an in‑house recruitment centre of excellence. Between April 2012 and April 2013 the new model helped cut agency use to about 3.5% and delivered £5.8m in recruitment savings (with LinkedIn directly responsible for about £1.1m); a targeted media campaign drove a 287% increase in unique visitors, 60% more job clicks and grew followers from 11,000 to over 41,000, establishing an engaged talent pipeline.
