L’Oréal’s long-running Brandstorm student competition — which engaged nearly 48,000 participants in 2020 around a “plastic-less” beauty theme — faced a major challenge when COVID‑19 made an in‑person final impossible. The company needed to recreate the ambitious game‑show format (judges on location, teams presenting remotely), maintain engagement among students, employees and partner schools, and maximize reach and views.
L’Oréal integrated LinkedIn Events with LinkedIn Live and ran organic and paid promotion (40 posts and a teaser video), invitations and #Brandstorm2020 advocacy to build a shared community experience. The two‑hour final drew just under 2,000 unique viewers (peak 521; never below 400), generated 947 comments, 594 reactions and over 1,100 hours of viewing; the extended campaign reached 8.5M+ people, drove 33,000+ engagements (more than double the prior year) and produced 1,414 hashtag posts.
