Microsoft used OneNote to help teachers organize lessons, collaborate with students, and create interactive classroom experiences, but awareness of the tool was low among educators and administrators—an audience that’s hard to reach through mainstream channels and often unsure how to apply OneNote in lesson planning. To address this, Microsoft partnered with LinkedIn, which hosts over 5 million U.S. educators, to pilot a targeted campaign focused on K–12 through higher education professionals.
The solution combined LinkedIn Sponsored Content with a dedicated microsite, OneNoteForTeachers.com, featuring interactive training and step‑by‑step guides. The campaign outperformed benchmarks—delivering an overall performance roughly 2x higher than expected—with a 0.46% CTR, 0.54% engagement rate, 22% additional earned media, a primary/secondary target CTR of 0.66%, and a top post at 0.84% (3x benchmark). It drove strong awareness, engagement, and site traffic and prompted Microsoft to adopt an “always‑on” approach for educators.
