Upwork, a global freelancing platform, needed to internationalize its massive and complex codebase to support new languages, a daunting challenge for its development teams who were new to i18n. Their code consisted of hundreds of repositories using multiple technologies, all while development continued on new features. Lingoport implemented a two-phased solution, first spearheading the i18n refactoring of key repositories and then creating comprehensive i18n guidelines and training to spread the knowledge across Upwork's many teams. This empowered Upwork's developers to complete the remaining work themselves. The results enabled Upwork to become self-sufficient in its i18n efforts, successfully staying on schedule to meet its localization goals for its initial global markets with the required quality, efficiency, and visibility provided by Lingoport's technology and methodology.
