University Medical Center of El Paso, a not-for-profit community hospital and the region’s only Level 1 trauma and stroke center, faced time-consuming manual reporting and limited visibility into block and open OR time, which left surgeons feeling they didn’t have enough usable time or early access to open slots. To address these challenges the hospital engaged LeanTaaS, deploying iQueue’s Analyze module for reporting and the Exchange tool to expose and reserve open scheduling time.
LeanTaaS’s solution gave UMC El Paso real-time, individualized metrics and automated reports for surgeons and staff, plus a visible open-time calendar and equipment availability through Exchange. The results included a 19% increase in case minutes per OR in the first six months versus the prior year, open-time requests made on average two weeks earlier, over 14,500 minutes of requested open time per OR in the first year, and 50% of surgeons receiving Analyze metrics via SMS or email.
