UCSF Reduced Infusion Wait Times at Peak Hours by 31%

The University of California, San Francisco’s Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center was consistently operating over capacity with a “peaky” midday utilization profile that caused long patient wait times, overflow in waiting rooms, and strained staff and patient satisfaction. To address this, leadership engaged LeanTaaS and its iQueue for Infusion Centers solution to optimize infusion scheduling templates.

LeanTaaS deployed iQueue for Infusion Centers first in a 12‑chair/3‑bed clinic and then across four additional centers adding 82 chairs, using data science and machine learning to smooth schedules and maximize chair utilization. After implementation, UCSF saw a more even workload and unlocked capacity, with measurable improvements: 31% lower waiting times at peak hours, 26% lower average waiting time, 42% fewer average hours over capacity, and an 8% reduction in overall average daily peak.
