OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital Realized $5.5 Million in Newly Captured OR Time

OhioHealth, through its Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, faced a challenge common to surgical services teams: increasing operating room access and accountability for allocated block time while balancing surgeon satisfaction with operational goals. The team saw significant unused capacity but lacked clear insight into where the opportunities were, and prior block management methods made it difficult to hold surgeons accountable for unused time. OhioHealth partnered with LeanTaaS and its iQueue for Operating Rooms solution to address these issues with predictive and prescriptive analytics.

LeanTaaS implemented iQueue’s Exchange and Collect modules to expose open OR time, proactively prompt surgeons to release unused block time, and create a surgeon-centric metric for identifying reclaimable time. In less than six months, OhioHealth reported 62,000 minutes of operating time requested through exchange, 211,000 minutes of capacity released, 130 blocks identified with Collect, and 12 blocks repurposed each month. The exchange activity also translated to an estimated $5.58 million in revenue at 60% utilization, while improving capacity, access, and accountability.
