Monument Health Increased Released Minutes by 17% to Improve OR Scheduling and Efficiency

Monument Health Rapid City Hospital, the largest facility in the Monument Health system with 12 operating rooms and a Level II trauma center serving western South Dakota, faced inefficient perioperative operations: OR open time was managed by phone and fax, first-come/first-serve access was chaotic during COVID-driven schedule changes, and leadership had to manually pull metrics from the EHR. To address this, Monument Health implemented LeanTaaS iQueue for Operating Rooms (Exchange and Analyze modules).

LeanTaaS’s iQueue gave clinics immediate visibility into available OR times, eliminated time‑consuming calls and faxes, and let schedulers rapidly manage open time as staffing or equipment constraints changed. The Analyze module automated reporting and room-usage visualizers supported staffing decisions. Results include 1,600 FCFS minutes managed per OR per month via iQueue’s Capacity tool, 880 minutes of released OR time rebooked monthly through Exchange, visualizations that improved staffing efficiency, and a 17% increase in released minutes following 442 reminders to providers.
