Case Study: Hartford HealthCare (St. Vincent’s Medical Center) achieves improved OR utilization and access with LeanTaaS iQueue

A LeanTaaS Case Study

Preview of the Hartford HealthCare Case Study

Hartford HealthCare Increased Staffed Room Utilization by 5%

Hartford HealthCare’s St. Vincent’s Medical Center, a 473‑bed teaching hospital, faced chronic operating room (OR) inefficiency: a 99% blocked schedule, surgeons not releasing unused block time, manual “sticky note” holds, limited visibility for schedulers, and unreliable data that prevented effective block allocation and repurposing. To address these challenges, the organization engaged LeanTaaS and its iQueue for Operating Rooms solution.

LeanTaaS implemented iQueue’s Exchange, Case Scheduling, Collect & Allocate, and Analyze modules to create a single marketplace for OR time, improve visibility and tracking, standardize metrics, and prompt timely releases. In the first four months after launch (Sept–Dec 2022 vs. the prior year) SVMC achieved measurable gains: +7% prime time utilization, +5% staffed room utilization, +6% block utilization, and a 124% increase in manually released minutes, demonstrating LeanTaaS’s impact on matching OR supply to demand.
