Dignity Health Sequoia Hospital Increased OR Block Utilization by 10 Percentage Points

Dignity Health, one of the nation’s largest health systems, needed a better way to manage operating room block time at Sequoia Hospital. Surgeons often struggled to find available time and would take cases elsewhere, while OR leadership lacked clear visibility into how block time was actually being used. Dignity Health partnered with LeanTaaS and its iQueue for Operating Rooms solution to address these scheduling and utilization challenges.

LeanTaaS implemented iQueue for Operating Rooms across Sequoia Hospital’s 12 ORs, using its Exchange, Collect, and Analyze modules to surface open time, repurpose unused blocks, and improve performance visibility. The results included a 10 percentage point increase in block utilization, a 3 percentage point increase in prime time room utilization, a 44% decrease in entirely unused allocated block minutes, and a 2x increase in released minutes.
