Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville Increased Robot Utilization by 45%

Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, a 489-bed hospital using Cerner EHR, struggled with inefficient robot allocation in its Main OR: three robots were assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis, block owners didn’t truly control robotic time, and frequent shuffling was required. After prior attempts to change allocation failed to gain consensus, the hospital partnered with LeanTaaS to address the challenge using their iQueue for Operating Rooms Exchange tool.

LeanTaaS helped design a new block schedule that assigned designated robotic block time to high-volume surgeons, configured iQueue settings so open robotic time was requestable only by surgeons with ready cases, and established updated policies with stakeholder buy‑in. As a result, Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville saw robotic minutes rise significantly after implementation (April 2021: +10% vs April 2019 and +18% vs March 2021; May 2021: +24% vs May 2019 and +20% vs March 2021; June 2021: +45% vs June 2019 and +28% vs March 2021), with surgeons reporting the new allocation was fair and improved access.
