Western Australian Students Benefit From on-screen Marking

The Western Australia School Curriculum and Standards Authority, which manages the Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) exams for roughly 17,000 students and thousands of exam booklets and markers, faced major logistical and quality-control challenges. Western Australia’s vast geography made centralized, paper-based marking slow and excluded many regional teachers; blind double marking and timely supervisor oversight were also costly and difficult to implement consistently.

The Authority adopted MarkManager (a SaaS on‑screen marking solution developed by BOSTES with LANSA) to scan and mask scripts, allow secure remote marking, and give chief markers real‑time dashboards, control scripts and messaging tools. The rollout improved accuracy, confidentiality and speed, enabled inclusion of regional and overseas markers, simplified blind double marking and quality assurance, and received positive user feedback for ease of use and effective monitoring.
