A LANSA Case Study
Wells & Young’s (now trading again as Charles Wells) is the UK’s largest privately owned brewery, formed from the merger of Charles Wells and Young & Co. After outsourcing primary and secondary distribution to a single third party, the company relied on a complex chain of flat-file exports, a message broker and VANs for EDI, which was costly, slow and offered no end-to-end visibility—causing hour-long batch turnarounds and risking delivery delays and penalties.
The IT team implemented LANSA Composer to perform native AS2 transmissions and map data to TRADACOMS directly from their ERP, delivering the solution in just over eight weeks without hiring an EDI specialist. The change cut transmission costs, gave full visibility into order status, reduced acknowledgement turnaround from 40–60 minutes to about 10 minutes, eliminated end-of-day EDI pressure and became the company’s standard middleware for further integrations.
