A LANSA Case Study
The Principality of Andorra’s Departament de Sistemes d’Informacio (DSI) needed a single, secure development platform to support all government administrative systems—from finance and customs to education, health and elections. Historically tied to RPG on iSeries, the DSI sought to standardize tools and skills, improve developer productivity, reduce maintenance and enable multi‑platform and web deployment while maintaining strict data-security and compliance standards.
DSI adopted LANSA in 1992 and progressively expanded its use (LANSA for iSeries, LANSA Open, Visual LANSA and LANSA for the Web with WAMs/AJAX) to deliver both graphical Windows apps and browser‑based Intranet/Extranet services. The result was higher developer productivity, reusable components, reliable multi‑platform applications and faster rollout of citizen services—examples include real‑time election management, online vehicle registration and driver‑license/passport renewals at town halls—reducing queues and improving service delivery.
