A LANSA Case Study
Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is a major teaching tertiary hospital in Perth whose Medical Technology and Physics (MTP) team manages over AU$80 million of medical equipment and strict compliance, safety and training requirements. MTP’s 25-year-old in-house Clipper system was limiting customer access and scalability, and no packaged solution offered the tailored functionality they needed for lifecycle management, regulatory checks and growing data volumes.
MTP biomedical engineers, with training and support from LANSA partner Lateral WA, built eMED on Windows/SQL with a browser interface using LANSA, delivering inventory and lifecycle management, work orders, compliance scheduling, parts replenishment, email notifications and dashboard reporting. The system made records paperless, automated workflows, improved customer self-service and historical analysis, and is now being rolled out to other facilities while continuing to evolve.
