Pgi Nonwovens Automates Production With Lansa

PGI Nonwovens B.V., part of the Polymer Group in the Netherlands, produces nonwoven materials for medical, hygiene and industrial markets and operates large converting and manufacturing facilities. Faced with paper-based workflows, unsupported barcode/labeling networks and the need to give sales reps laptop access while tightly integrating PC-based processes with its legacy PRMS ERP on an IBM System i, PGI needed a way to automate production lines, forklifts and device-driven workflows without growing its small IT team.

Using Visual LANSA, PGI built Windows thin‑client applications and device interfaces that integrate in real time with PRMS, driving barcode scanners, label printers and robots across more than 30 workstations and 12 converting lines. Implemented rapidly by a small team, the solution eliminated paper handoffs, updated ERP data as boxes rolled off the line, and enabled label application via PLC/com-port integration — delivering a 15% labor reduction in both divisions, higher throughput without new lines, reduced errors and a cost-effective, fully fitted system.
