A LANSA Case Study
Oil-Dri Corporation of America, a Chicago-based manufacturer and the largest U.S. cat litter producer with about 25% market share, faced a tight mandate from a major retailer to move EDI transactions from a VAN to AS2 over the Internet by May 2003. With most of its EDI and ERP systems running on an iSeries platform and many customers beginning to request AS2, Oil-Dri needed a scalable, iSeries-compatible solution that would meet the deadline with minimal disruption.
Oil-Dri implemented LANSA Data Secure Direct on its iSeries 820, integrating it with existing Sterling Gentran mapping so only a mapping upgrade and one program change were required. The shrink-wrapped AS2 solution handled certificate exchange, encryption/decryption, receipts and auditing, allowed unlimited trading-partner connections, and went live a month ahead of schedule—preserving VAN-based EDI support, keeping customers happy, and enabling a lean IT team while positioning the company for broader EDI-INT adoption.
