Nspcc Revamps Its Supporter Care System

The NSPCC, the UK’s leading children’s charity protecting children from abuse, relied on a nearly 30‑year‑old IBM i/LANSA supporter system that holds 6.2 million records and processes hundreds of thousands of donations (about £114m a year). Although the backend reliably handled transactions, the 5250 character‑based Supporter Care interface was slow and fragmented, forcing staff into duplicate work and hampering the quality of supporter conversations; a full CRM replacement would have been complex, risky and costly due to integration needs.

Working with LANSA, NSPCC used Visual LANSA to build a modern Windows UI while keeping the existing database, moving from prototype to production in two months. The new interface surfaces key data on a single screen, enables free‑format notes and document links, auto‑creates notes for most actions, supports asynchronous fuzzy searches and centralised reporting — saving time, reducing errors and improving supporter conversations at a fraction of the cost and risk of a rip‑and‑replace CRM.
