A LANSA Case Study
The National Assembly for Wales Finance Division manages and monitors a £10 billion annual budget and supports around 3,000 intranet users. Constrained by legacy AS/400 and RPG systems and the limitations of JBA tools, a small team of three analyst‑programmers needed a way to deliver modern Windows and Web interfaces (while retaining 5250 access), streamline high‑volume payments (about 150,000 agricultural subsidies and 50,000 other payments) and integrate disparate subsystems.
By adopting LANSA the Assembly created single‑source 5250, Windows and Web applications — including web-based budget inquiry, an Operational Plan and a travel‑and‑subsistence claims system — and is implementing LANSA Integrator to map transactions to Coda’s XML interface. The results include real‑time transactional web apps for thousands of users, reimbursement times cut from about five weeks to three days, and productivity gains that let three developers achieve work that would otherwise have required two to three times more staff.
