A LANSA Case Study
Mincron Software Systems, a provider of ERP and warehouse solutions for hard‑goods wholesale distributors, faced a sales and support challenge: its 30‑year, RPG‑based MSS/HD system (over 3 million lines of code and 2,500 screens) still used a 5250 green‑screen UI that repelled prospects and worried customers about hiring and training. Rewriting the codebase was too risky and slow, so Mincron needed a fast, evolutionary modernization approach that preserved existing functionality and customer upgrade paths.
Mincron adopted LANSA’s RAMP framework (with Visual LANSA) and later LongRange for mobile, delivering a native Windows framework in three months and completing enhancements to ~2,200 screens over 10 months. The staged approach let Mincron add native Windows features incrementally and introduce a native mobile app; results included new MyHD sales soon after release, renewed interest from existing customers, improved usability and Office integration, and a clear ROI.
