Metropolitan Associates, a residential real estate firm managing over 4,500 apartment homes in Southeast Wisconsin, was constrained by a 20‑year‑old RPG green‑screen property management system that centralized data entry, caused delays and accuracy problems, and made meeting complex subsidized‑housing reporting requirements difficult. They needed a modern, Windows‑based interface, field data entry, better Office integration and an easier‑to‑maintain solution but could not find a packaged product that met their needs.
Metropolitan rebuilt its core systems with Visual LANSA, keeping data on the iSeries and delivering Windows applications via Citrix with ActiveX integration to Word/Excel and third‑party services (including credit card processing). The new end‑to‑end solution enabled real‑time processing at apartment sites, faster move‑ins and financial transactions, improved timeliness and accuracy, workflow alerts, expanded service offerings, lower total cost of ownership and quicker onboarding for developers.
