The Merchants Insurance Group, a Buffalo-based property and casualty insurer serving small businesses through over 500 independent agents, faced slow, error-prone quoting and policy issuance processes. Agents relied on quarterly rating diskettes and phone calls while Merchants re-keyed data into their WINS system, creating inconsistencies, heavy manual work, and long turnaround times.
Merchants partnered with MindTree to build a LANSA web portal that integrates in real time with WINS, letting agents quote, issue policies, view claims and billing, and access reports directly at the point of sale. The solution eliminated rating diskettes, cut re-keying and service calls, sped policy issuance from days or weeks to about one day, and boosted agent productivity and customer service—driving plans to extend LANSA across their core systems.
