A LANSA Case Study
Veiling Zaltbommel is a Dutch cooperative auction for fruit, vegetables and mushrooms that needed faster, more accurate planning and delivery data to meet daily export contracts. Relying on phone calls, faxes and error-prone touchscreen entries caused hectic short-term planning, data retyping and frequent delivery errors, so the cooperative wanted growers online without the cost and overhead of a private network or distributed client software.
Using LANSA for the Web on their central AS/400, growers can now enter delivery forecasts and actual delivery details via a standard browser, giving auction staff up-to-date daily, weekly and seasonal data. The pilot with 15 pepper growers freed nearly one full-time planner, improved data accuracy, helped secure better prices (peppers average 5,000 kg/day seasonally), and enabled new services like online invoices, price information and sales statistics — with plans to extend the service to buyers.
