A LANSA Case Study
ITT-TDS, the transportation and logistics arm of ITT Industries managing about 1.6 million shipments a year, faced heavy support overhead from carriers and customers calling to ask about freight payments and status (around 150 lengthy calls weekly). They needed a low‑cost way to improve service and reduce processing and communication expenses while keeping tight control of payment workflows.
They implemented a LANSA web extension to their existing AS/400‑based Freight Payment system (built with Rippe & Kingston), including a secure SSL/DMZ infrastructure and dynamic AS/400 content. The self‑service portal and online approval processes cut phone and fax traffic, delivered a $4.3M audit reduction in year one, saved ongoing telephone costs (about $1,000/month) and staff time, and simplified maintenance for IT while improving customer/carrier access to real‑time payment information.
