Hfa’s Up-skilled Rpg Team on Equal Footing With Java Team

Harry Fox Agency (HFA) is the leading U.S. provider of licensing and royalty services for the music industry, representing over 46,000 publishers. Much of HFA’s core processing ran on RPG/IBM i systems while newer work favored Java, leaving the experienced RPG team confined to maintenance and without a modern toolset. HFA needed to modernize its IBM i applications—starting with the publisher-facing POLI+ system—and better leverage the RPG team for new web and Windows development.

HFA trained its RPG developers in Visual LANSA and used LANSA Web Application Modules to redevelop POLI+ (plus added functionality) with consultant mentoring; the team completed the rewrite in two months. The result: doubled development resources, faster delivery and easier maintenance, strong user reception, and quicker time-to-market for follow-up projects (for example, an Audit Uplift effort now estimated at six months instead of twelve). The RPG team is now on equal footing with the Java team and many IBM i enhancements are handled with LANSA.
