A LANSA Case Study
Green’s General Foods, an Australian food manufacturer and distributor, was struggling with an IBM i-based BPCS ERP that had grown heavily customized over time. Over 150 RPG programs and more than 30 supplementary systems (WMS, EDI, etc.) embedded business rules in hard-to-maintain code, creating frequent errors, time-consuming fixes, and costly upgrade barriers for their small IT team.
Green’s replaced those custom programs with LANSA Composer for orchestration and business rules and aXes-Robot to handle “last-mile” 5250 screen actions. The change moved logic out of the ERP into a BPM layer managed by a business analyst, eliminated the problematic RPG programs, resolved recurring errors, enabled faster implementations (most work done in ~2 months), and delivered a quicker ROI at roughly half the cost and complexity of larger BPM alternatives—leaving the ERP closer to a standard, upgrade-friendly state.
