Government of Bermuda Web Site Brings Students Home

The Government of Bermuda, working with LANSA Professional Services and Bermuda Information Technology Services (BITS), launched careers.gov.bm to address a talent-gap problem: many Bermudian students study overseas and do not return, while local employers rely heavily on expatriate managers. Existing data from immigration cards was incomplete and outdated, so the government needed a reliable, searchable way to identify Bermudians abroad, match their skills to local opportunities, and encourage returnees.

LANSA and BITS built a hosted, IBM System i–based careers site using LANSA Web Access Modules, Ajax and LANSA Integrator with Web services to verify immigration records and enable blind matching. Students can create profiles, upload résumés and receive automated job matches; employers post jobs, internships and mentoring opportunities. Rapid development and targeted marketing have helped employers find and recruit Bermudian talent, given students clearer career pathways home, and created a sustainable, up-to-date platform for managing national human capital.
