A LANSA Case Study
Geodis Wilson Australia, part of one of the world’s largest freight management groups, faced a legacy-COBOL challenge: its core Freight/AMS system had strong functionality but an outdated green‑screen interface. With a small, multi‑skilled in‑house team, the company wanted to preserve its investment, modernize user interfaces for Windows and web, and avoid introducing multiple new technologies while improving productivity and customer service.
The team used Visual LANSA to add Windows extensions, automated Excel reporting and web capabilities, and LANSA Integrator for SQL access. Development was fast — examples include a shipment inquiry in 3 hours, a printing solution in 6 hours, and a warehouse management prototype in 60 hours — and delivered big gains: CASS reconciliations dropped from three days to about 20 minutes, monthly reporting time fell by days, users embraced the new interfaces, and the IT group retained a lean, single‑skillset development model while improving service delivery.
