Case Study: The Federated Group achieves centralized client management and seamless backend integration with LANSA

A LANSA Case Study

Federated Group Deploys Windows Cms Portal

The Federated Group, a Mississauga-based customs brokerage and logistics provider serving shareholders and clients across North America, faced fragmented client data in legacy RPG systems on IBM System i used by 500 users in over 50 locations. They needed a centralized Client Management System that would share client information across divisions and update existing backend systems directly — without altering file structures or reworking more than 400 backend programs — and wanted a solution they could control rather than a one-size-fits-all packaged product.

Federated built a Windows CMS using the Visual LANSA Framework, deploying LANSA Client, Just-in-Time deployment and LANSA triggers to keep backend systems synchronized while training in-house developers and using LANSA services for mentoring. The CMS became a centralized repository with unlimited address handling, integrated reporting (LANSA Client + Crystal Reports), self-service report creation, and single-screen account views. The rollout preserved existing systems (avoiding customization of 400+ programs), improved data consistency and user productivity, and positioned the company for easier backend redevelopment and a future client portal.
