Export Development Canada on the Road to SOA

Export Development Canada (EDC) is Canada’s export credit agency, supporting nearly 7,000 exporters with financing, insurance and risk management. EDC relied on ACBS — a largely LANSA-based commercial lending system — but faced manual, error-prone cross-system processes (notably disbursements and customer statement delivery) and wanted to expose ACBS for two‑way SOAP web services and move toward a Service‑Oriented Architecture without extensive custom development.

Using LANSA Integrator and an on-site LANSA developer, EDC built SOAP web services that integrate ACBS with its ESB, document-generation and dispatch services. The solution automated disbursement notifications (eliminating rekeying and delays), produced customer-friendly PDF statements sent electronically/faxed, and provided validation, logging and reusable SOA metadata — delivering faster, more reliable processing and a reusable framework for future integrations (for example Siebel CRM).
