A LANSA Case Study
DEMCO Inc., a Madison, Wisconsin supplier of library and school furniture and supplies serving North America and Europe, faced the twin challenges of modernizing a decades-old green‑screen ERP and tightly integrating customer-facing web and eCommerce channels without the cost and disruption of a full ERP replacement. The company needed a more productive development environment, better web integration with core systems, and a path to preserve its existing systems investment while enabling growth.
DEMCO relied on LANSA for its core operational system, customer services and web/eCommerce sites, and later used LANSA RAMP to modernize screens and blend rich-client and browser functions. The approach delivered rapid development (sites launched in under 10 weeks), major cost savings (about 80% lower web development services and modernization estimated at roughly 1/35th the cost of replacement), compressed navigation (screens reduced up to 30x), and strong business results — online orders grew to about 30% of volume (from 9%) and web-driven business jumped 200% shortly after launch, supporting continued company growth.
