A LANSA Case Study
Bemis Manufacturing, a family‑owned international company and the world’s largest toilet‑seat maker, faced a heavily customized legacy ERP on IBM i plus thousands of unsupported PC “shadow” applications. Users dealt with clunky, screen‑based workflows, duplicated processes and slow modernization, prompting a “Simplify Our Systems” initiative to consolidate and modernize core manufacturing and ERP interfaces.
Bemis trained its existing RPG developers and new graduates on LANSA and adopted agile, Scrum‑style teams to redevelop and consolidate standalone apps into integrated, user‑friendly LANSA solutions (including a B2C eCommerce site). The effort reclaimed shadow IT, standardized features like sorting, Excel export and hyperlinks, and delivered faster onboarding, improved decision‑making and visibility for IT — with reported productivity gains of more than 20% and over 100 users spending less time learning and navigating systems.
