Barrus Implements Web Services on Dealer Site

E.P. Barrus Ltd, a UK manufacturer and distributor of engines, lawn and garden machinery and marine products, needed a fast, flexible way to trade with large retailers like B&Q and support its extensive dealer network. With just five IT staff, an iSeries System21 ERP and a three-month deadline to become EDI‑ready, Barrus faced the challenge of handling high-volume orders, multiple messaging formats and giving dealers an easy way to find and order from over 400,000 parts.

Barrus implemented LANSA Integrator and LANSA Commerce Edition to provide a single, database‑driven EDI framework and a dealer web portal. The site uses web services to integrate Epitomy’s exploded diagrams for graphical part searches and SOAP messaging for stock, pricing and dealer validation, while Tradacom v8 and Tradanet handle retail EDI flows into System21. The solution was delivered on time and budget, improved order-to-invoice cycles, increased market share and dealer service opportunities, and gave Barrus a future‑proof, multi-format platform for scaling trading relationships.
