A LANSA Case Study
Advance Computing, an Australian specialist in financial software with over 25 years’ experience, needed to modernize its core MISSION and CMS applications that had been built in RPG for IBM AS/400. The challenge was to reuse existing business logic while re-architecting an internally described database and enabling cross‑platform deployment — especially to Windows — without a risky “big bang” replacement.
Using LANSA’s repository and 4GL tools, Advance reworked the database into a relational design, externalized business rules and incrementally replaced RPG with LANSA code so a single source could target both IBM i and Windows. The solution enabled web banking, XML integrations (e.g., tax authority, MYOB), Outlook/Office/PDF workflows and mobile alerts, resulting in broader Windows adoption, faster enhancements, reduced paper, reliable multi‑platform deployments and measurable customer ROI.
