National Australia Bank cuts monitoring costs and exits Netcool in 6 months with Kyndryl

National Australia Bank (NAB) sought to modernize its technology infrastructure and decommission legacy systems, including its IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM/Netcool) platform. The bank faced the technical challenge of consolidating this legacy monitoring system into a modern observability pattern to gain greater flexibility and operational efficiency. Kyndryl was engaged to assist with this migration.

Kyndryl collaborated with NAB to replace the legacy system with Grafana observability technology. The solution involved extracting monitoring rules, deploying Grafana Alloy agents, integrating with ServiceNow, and developing custom feeds for unsupported systems. As a result, NAB successfully decommissioned ITM/Netcool, achieving significant savings on software licenses and operational expenses while enhancing system visibility and enabling future cloud monitoring. Kyndryl's work provided a more streamlined and scalable observability platform.
